Characteristics and main barriers of the power tool industry

Commonly used rechargeable batteries today include lead-acid batteries, nickel-metal hydride/nickel-cadmium batteries, and rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Lead-acid batteries have gradually withdrawn from the portable power source market due to a series of problems such as volume, life, safety and energy density. Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are one of the future development directions of large-capacity power sources.

Lithium-ion battery is a secondary battery whose electrodes are mainly made of lithium metal or lithium alloy, and the electrolyte is a non-aqueous electrolyte solution. It mainly relies on lithium ions (Li+) to move between the positive and negative electrodes to complete the charging and discharging process. During charging, lithium ions are deintercalated from the positive electrode, and inserted into the negative electrode through the electrolyte, and the negative electrode is in a lithium-rich state; during discharge, the opposite is true. Lithium batteries have the advantages of large power reserve, light weight, long life, and short charging time, and are gradually replacing nickel-cadmium batteries, further promoting the development of miniaturization and cordless power tools. In 2020, the penetration rate of lithium-ion power tools in cordless power tools has reached 90%, gradually occupying a dominant position. In 2021, the global power tool lithium battery shipments will be 22GWh, and the shipment scale is expected to increase to 60GWh in 2026, showing rapid growth. In the future, my country's lithium-ion battery supply in the power tool market is expected to be further improved.
